WHAT IS A BARCODE AND WHAT ARE ITS TYPES?

Barcode is an array consisting of thick and thin bars and gaps between these bars. By aligning the bars and gaps side by side numbers from 0 to 9, letters in the alphabet and signs such as dots and commas can be symbolized. How to array these bars so that a number, letter, or special signs can be symbolized with bars is defined by barcode symbology.

TYPES OF BARCODES

The types of barcodes are formed by grouping the barcodes according to their usage, structure, symbols. There are many types of barcodes, but 4 of them are used quite widely. These are EAN/UPC, Interleaved 2/5, Code 39 and Codabar barcodes. All of these varieties are symbols of a barcode type. These symbols occur as a result of the change of the set of characters and rules required for the creation of the barcode. The characters in each type of barcode are the unique alphabet of that barcode. The rules are created so that the types of barcode systems can be read globally.

The EAN-13 (European Article Number) barcode is a 13-digit (12 digit + control digit) barcoding standard. The EAN-13 barcode is defined by the standards organization GS1. EAN-13 barcodes are generally used worldwide for marking retail products. Numbers barcodes with EAN-13 provide the identification of products. It is also called Japanese Article Number (JAN) in Japan. All numbers encoded with UPC and EAN are also known as Global Trade Item Number (Global Trade Item Number, GTIN). These numbers can also be encoded with other GS1 barcodes . Less commonly used EAN-8 barcodes are also used to mark retail products.

2-digit (EAN 2) and 5-digit (EAN 5) complementary barcodes can also be used to create with a barcode containing a total of 14 or 17 data digits. They are usually used in periodicals to indicate the serial number separately or in books to indicate the selling price and in food products charged according to their weight.
